Mountain Hiking Trails

Bluff Mesa Trail
Big Bear 0.41 mile Easy Walk
This trail starts at the Champion Lodgepole Pine and terminates at Bluff Mesa Group Camp. Easy hike for families.
Camp Creek National Recreation Trail
Arrowbear/Running Springs 3.6 miles Difficult
This trail begins approximately one mile east of Snow Valley Ski Resort and terminates at Bear Creek. It is a very steep trail with an elevation change of 2,000 feet.
Castle Rock Trail
Big Bear 0.8 mile Moderate to Difficult
Access from Highway 18, about one mile east of the Big Bear Lake Dam. Rich in scenery.
Champion Lodgepole Pine Trail
Big Bear .3 mile Easy Walk
This trail begins at the end of Forest Service Road 2N10 and terminates at the Champion Lodgepole Pine
Cougar Crest Trail
Big Bear 2 miles Moderately Difficult
Go .6 mile west on Highway 38 from the Discovery Center to the parking area off the highway. This trail connects with the Pacific Crest Trail west of Bertha Peak.
Exploration Trail
Running Springs 4.5 miles (one-way) East to Moderate
In the National Children's Forest. Lower trailhead is accessed on Keller Peak Road, .2 miles off Highway 18. Upper trailhead is 4 miles off Highway 18 at the 'Y' where road goes to Keller Peak Lookout. Keller Peak Road is Immeidately east of Deerlick Forest Service Fire Station, Highway 18.
Fisherman's Camp Trail 2W07
Lake Arrowhead 2.5 miles Moderately Difficult
It begins 1.3 miles west of Crab Flats campground on FS road 3N34 and ends at Deep Creek.
Glory Ridge Trail
Big Bear 1 mile Very Difficult
This old fisherman's trail begins at the end of Forest Service Road 2N15 and goes to Bear Creek. Very steep.
Gray's Peak Trail
Big Bear 3.5 miles Easy to Moderate
Trailhead is located on the west side of Highway 38 in the Grout Bay Picnic Area. Closed for wintering eagles from approximately November 1 to April 1.
Heaps Peak Arboretum Trail 3W05
Skyforest 7/10 th of a mile Easy Walk
It begins two miles east of Skyforest on Hwy. 18.
Hot Spring Trail 3W02
Hesperia 1.5 miles Difficult
It begins one mile south of Bowen Ranch near Hesperia.
Indian Rock Trail 3W15
Lake Arrowhead One-half mile Easy Walk
It begins at the Rock Camp Fire Station on Hwy. 173.
Little Green Valley Trail 2W10
Arrowbear/Running Springs 1.5 miles Difficult
It begins on Hwy.18, across from Snow Valley.
National Children's Forest Interpretive Trail
Running Springs 3/4 mile Easy, paved
Off Keller Peak Rd., four miles from Highway 18. Beautiful mountain views, picnic area, great family hike even for the little ones. Trail and trail signs designed by kids! Handicap access/strollers ok. Altitude 7,400 feet. Closed in the winter
North Shore Recreation Trail 3W12
Lake Arrowhead 1.7 miles Moderately Difficult
It begins at North Shore Campground on Hospital Road in Lake Arrowhead.
Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail PC2000
San Bernardino Mountains 39 miles Easy Walk
May be accessed from various points in the district.
Pineknot Trail
Big Bear 3 miles Moderately Difficult
Begins at the northeast corner of the Aspen Glen Picnic Area and terminates at the Converse Fire Station.
Pinnacles Trail 3W16
Lake Arrowhead 3.5 miles Difficult
It begins at the entrance to the Rifle Range on Hwy. 173, north of Rock Camp. Very steep.
Seeley Creek Trail 4W07
Crestline One mile Easy Walk
It begins 1/4-mile south of the Camp Seeley entrance (Hwy. 138) on FS road 2N03.
Siberia Creek Trail
Big Bear 7 miles Very Difficult
Altitude drop of 3,000 ft. This trail begins at the end of the Lodgepole Trail. It can be reached by using the Lodgepole Pine Trail or the Bluff Mesa Trail and terminates at Bear Creek near the Siberia Creek Group Camp. Hike to Gunsight Rock formation. Only experts should proceed since trail is too steep for maintenance.
Sugarloaf National Recreation Trail
Big Bear 5 miles Difficult
This trail begins at a point where Green Canyon Creek crosses Forest Service Road 2N93 at around 7,600 foot elevation and proceeds to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain, 10,000 feet in elevation. Steep in some places.
Trail of the Phoenix 2W09
Running Springs One-half mile Easy Walk
It begins at the entrance of the Children's Forest on Keller Peak Road.
Tunnel II Trail 3W19
Lake Arrowhead One mile  Easy Trail
It begins at FS Road 2N34. Take Grass Valley Road to Clubhouse. Follow Clubhouse to Fairway. Continue on Fairway, turning right on Brentwood. Turn left on Sonoma to 2N34. Go left on 2N34, follow to trailhead.
Woodland Trail
Big Bear 1.5 miles Easy Loop
This is a nature trail with 20 interpretive markers. Parking for access is .8 mile east of the Big Bear Discovery Center, across the highway from the MWD East Launch Boat Ramp.
